Summer
days, you’ll find him on the front porch
In a swing, like a king upon a throne
I stop by his house, when he’s out
He loves to talk, spends too much time alone
At eighty-five, he’s a man of many stories
But there’s seldom anyone to tell them to
Never complains about being lonely
Tells me life is just a test, from God’s point of view
CHORUS:
Every day has its challenge, here on the proving grounds
My body grows weary, but my soul remains sound
Protected by faith I won’t break down
Because paradise awaits me, beyond the proving grounds.
Fifty years he was a painter,
Roller and brush, color in his touch
He believes God’s grace is like new paint,
Faded lives shine again, covered in a savior’s love
BRIDGE:
Fought for his country, in a war to end all wars,
On the battle field, it’s all too real, time on earth is short
Trials of this world, hard to understand,
We must entrust, the unexplained is part of a bigger plan
CHORUS 2:
Everyday has its challenge, here on the proving grounds,
My body grows weary, but my soul remains sound
Protected by faith, I won’t break down
Because paradise awaits me, beyond the proving grounds.
TAG:
Here on the proving grounds
Sometimes we’re tossed around
Savor truth where it’s found |
