EVERYTHING I NEED

She don’t like caviar, she don’t like champagne.
She don’t drive a foreign car
But you won’t hear me complain.
She may never be a picture in a fashion magazine,
But she’s got everything I need.
She don’t go to places where everybody goes.
She don’t buy diamond rings, she don’t wear designer clothes.
She may never be sophisticated, refined, or pedigreed.
But she’s got everything I need.
‘Cause she stood beside me when I didn’t have a friend.
Picked up all my pieces, and put me together again.
She stayed right there with me,
And, Lord, I don’t know why.
Wouldn’t you call me a lucky guy?
So don’t try to tell me she’s not good for me.
We’re built to last, we’re fully guaranteed.
Don’t you sit there and tell me that we don’t belong together.
She’s got everything I need.

MONSTER

Think what you want to think,
Do what you have to do.
You're the judge and you're the jury
Whatever you decide is true.
Don't let the facts get in your way
Clearly you don’t want to see.
You created a monster in your head
But he don't look a thing like me.

Go on and crucify.
Turn your back & walk away.
Don't waste your time with conversation
It don't matter what I say.
I try to speak, you shut me out.
You’ve made your own reality.
You created a monster in your head
But he don't look a thing like me.

And he's gonna hurt you, he's gonna cheat you
He's gonna eat you alive.
He's gonna use you, defile and abuse you
No way you'll ever survive.

Now that you've laid down the law,
This is how it has to be.
It's too late to look behind us
And nobody’s more surprised than me.
You're the purest, the brightest, the fairest
Who could disagree?
But you created a monster in your head
And he don't look a thing like me.

I was only good to you
I guess you saw things differently.
You created a monster in your head
But he don't look a thing like me.

GOOD THOUGHTS

It may be a matter of opinion
But what you did was quite unkind.
You threw me to some hungry wolves, and you didn’t seem to mind.
Although it’s been a long time ago,
I still can’t understand what it was all about.
But I’ll keep on praying and hoping that someday
We’ll work it out.

CHORUS:
And if any of this sounds stupid,
Please disregard whatever I may say.
But for some peculiar reason I’m sitting here
Sending good thoughts your way.

And when I come right down to it
I know it’s obsessive, it’s insane.
How it all keeps tumbling over and upside down
     and around in my brain.
And everyone says I need to let it go,
But what’s a boy to do?
So I’ll keep on wishing and wondering
and trying to get back to you.

REPEAT CHORUS

Can you feel it when you wake in the night?
I’m wondering if maybe you might.
Can you feel it as you do what you do?
Somebody’s thinking good thoughts about you.

YOU’LL BE HERE

Sometimes I get lonely, sometimes I feel blue,
But it always seems to go away when I think of you.
I don’t have to see you,
Or call you on the phone.
No matter where you are, I know I’ll never be alone.

CHORUS:
‘Cause you’ll be here on my mind and in my heart,
Even though the miles and years keep us far apart.
And if I never see your face again
I’ll still hold you near, ‘cause you’ll be here.

Whenever I feel like I can’t face another day
You always seem to pick me up and help me find my way.
And you may say it’s silly, but I swear I think it’s true
That God gave me an angel the day he sent me you.

REPEAT CHORUS

I thought you’d walk beside me down every winding road.
I thought you believed in me.

REPEAT CHORUS

And if I never see your face again
I’ll still hold you near, ‘cause you’ll be here.

GIRL UNDER THE BED

You’ve heard lots of stories about guys like me.
They say I’m about as bad as any boy could be.
They say I’m gonna love you, gonna leave you alone.
You’ve heard I got a heart like a stone.
But I’ve cleaned up my act, gonna make you this promise:
If you ever take me home …

CHORUS:
You’re never gonna find a girl under the bed.
Ain’t gonna find somebody hiding in the closet.
You can check my phone bill, the mileage on my car,
Ain’t nothing going on around here.
Check my shirt collar for perfume,
Look in every nook and every cranny of my room.
‘Cause, honey, I’ve changed, I’m gonna make it plain,
I don’t want nobody but you.

They look at me and they say “That boy’s been around.
He’s got a shady past, he was born on the wrong side of town.”
But they don’t know, that was a long time ago,
And I’ve changed how I feel inside.
So I make you this vow: it’s all over now.
I’ve got nothing to hide.

TOO LATE TO TURN AROUND

Thought I was really something, couldn’t tell me anything,
Had to grab that brass ring on the merry-go-round.
Nobody could make me stay, had to do everything my way.
It got me where I am today,
Sleeping on the ground.

CHORUS:
I guess I was mistaken, and my hearts aching,
‘Cause the road I’ve taken is only breaking me down.
Now I’m walking all alone,
Never felt so far from home.
I guess I should’ve known, but it’s too late to turn around.

Had to see what it was like, fooling ‘round, staying out all night.
But I didn’t do something right, ‘cause nobody knows my name.
I look in every stranger’s face, can’t find a friend anyplace.
They disappeared and left no trace, and I’m the one to blame.

BRIDGE:
And that old wind cuts through this coat I’m wearing
Like a rusty razor blade.
And I’m tired, oh I’m so tired.
Tired of living every day with this choice I made.

REPEAT CHORUS
